Whining Through Our Prayers. What Are We Beggars???

I wonder how God feels when our praying is mostly whining to Him? A few weeks ago, my daughter wanted me to do something for her in which I was delighted to do.  But when she asked me she sort of mumbled and whined to where I could barely understand her.   This is common for her as a five year old, but I felt like she needed to ask me right, without whining or mumbling.

I said, “You are my daughter and I expect you to respect me when you come to me asking for something. You are not a beggar. Now ask me with confidence, like I’m going to actually do it for you.”

Eventually, she asked me right without mumbling or whining.   As I pondered the situation afterwards, I thought to myself, “Is this what God thinks when we come to Him whining about our situation or mumbling about what we want Him to do for us?”    Do we sort of approach the throne of God with a whimper of something we want, barely understandable, disrespecting His majesty?

It was humbling because I was reminded of the so many times that I have whined before the throne of God…”When are you going to do this God?”…”Why haven’t you done this?”…”How come everybody else seems to be doing good, but I’m not?”…”Please, oh please, God, can’t I just have it this one time?”

Doesn’t He call us to boldly enter His throne of Grace, confidently asking Him for whatever we need?
What do we believe about God’s heart towards us? Is it good or is it good only when we are good?

Therein lies the struggle with the believer.  We focus so much on changing our actions, using step-by-step guides towards becoming better Christians, better business owners, etc., but God asks us to change our beliefs in order to change our actions.

If we don’t believe He is good, regardless of us, then we are literally saying that we have more control and power over Him, as if our actions dictate God’s behavior and love towards us.  He can’t help but love us even when we screw up.  That’s why there’s no condemnation in Christ.  He can’t condemn because He took our condemnation at the cross.

Today, look at your life from this perspective.  Where have you been whining to God about what you want?  As a Son or Daughter, you have access to Heaven’s Economy, without whining about it.  Let’s go after His heart and see how He provides!
